Job description
About the Role
Business Insider is seeking a Senior Director of Creative Strategy to join its Creative Strategy and Studios team in New York. This senior leadership role will guide the creative strategy function and act as a key driver of the company’s advertising growth through bold ideas, strategic storytelling, and high-impact commercial concepts.
The organization is built for people who are energetic, forward-looking, and motivated by stories that help audiences understand the world and take action. Its culture emphasizes collaboration, effectiveness, and continuous improvement. The Creative Strategy and Studios group is centered on innovation, strong strategic thinking, and delivering measurable results for clients and the business.
This position is the most senior creative role on the team and plays a “player-coach” leadership role: mentoring a team while also personally contributing to pitches, brainstorming, and the development of major commercial proposals. The role reports to the VP of Creative Strategy & Studios and is part of the Advertising department. It is based at the New York City headquarters with an in-office expectation of at least 2–3 days per week.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the creation of major commercial ideas and serve as the main creative force behind the company’s largest advertising opportunities.
- Drive brainstorms, proposals, and client presentations, confidently leading high-stakes conversations and helping win strategic business.
- Design persuasive pitch materials that bring together editorial IP, branded content, events, video, data, and media into a single client-ready story.
- Create frameworks and ideation tools that raise the overall quality and consistency of the Creative Strategy team’s output.
- Develop a proactive partnership approach that helps unlock larger opportunities with priority accounts.
- Strengthen the proactive marketing function by identifying market gaps and proposing innovative concepts beyond standard RFP processes.
- Work closely with the newsroom to turn editorial franchises and award-winning IP into commercial programs with strong market value.
- Coordinate with Advertising and Editorial to develop ambitious cross-functional campaigns, tentpoles, and multimedia packages.
- Guide the team on positioning, framing, and go-to-market materials for new editorial launches and revenue-generating ad products.
- Oversee day-to-day team operations, improve workflows, and continuously raise the creative standard.
- Help shape and roll out emerging AI-based creative workflows.
- Mentor team members and support their growth through coaching and creative training.
What the Role Requires
- A strong creative instinct and the ability to turn ideas into compelling stories that elevate commercial work.
- A history of developing and winning large-scale commercial programs across digital media.
- Experience managing, mentoring, and growing high-performing creative or marketing teams.
- Excellent client-facing presence and the confidence to lead executive-level pitches and discussions.
- A hands-on leadership style with a willingness to both guide others and actively build ideas and presentations.
- Strong knowledge of the digital advertising landscape and how premium brands evaluate and buy media programs.
- Advanced presentation-building skills using Canva, PowerPoint, and Google Slides.
- Deep understanding of brand storytelling, multimedia packaging, and data-informed content marketing.
- Experience using AI tools to improve marketing and pitch workflow efficiency.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range of $155,000 to $165,000, depending on skills, experience, and competencies.
- Additional bonus opportunity.
- Flexible paid time off, 10 company holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leave.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Matched 401(k) plan with vesting.
- Support resources for financial planning, family planning, mental health, and employee assistance.
- Additional perks such as commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and more.
