Job description

About the employer

Thales builds identity management and data protection solutions that sit at the centre of digital security. Its technologies and services support organisations and governments in creating trust across billions of digital interactions, from banking and border operations to energy systems and secure data exchange. More than 30,000 organisations use these capabilities to verify identities, control access to digital services, analyse information, and protect connected environments.

Role overview

The Senior Consultant – Advisory will lead complex governance, risk, and compliance work across large Government and Commercial programmes. This role is focused on strengthening client security maturity, producing high-quality outcomes, supporting consultant performance, and building productive relationships with key stakeholders within client organisations and across the wider Thales Group.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed security control reviews, including vulnerability assessments, security design reviews, threat assessments, risk evaluations, and remediation support.
  • Adapt security approaches so they align with each client’s requirements as well as relevant government and industry standards.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of security policies, procedures, and related documentation.
  • Build and keep up-to-date system security artefacts, with attention to accuracy and ongoing relevance.
  • Work closely with teams across IT, risk, and the wider business.
  • Learn, apply, and continue to build knowledge of frameworks such as NZISM, NIST, and CERT Critical Controls.

Experience and knowledge required

  • Demonstrated capability in applying NZISM, the Protective Security Requirements, and other public sector frameworks in the context of New Zealand Government agencies and the AoG common process model.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand All-of-Government certification and accreditation processes.
  • Ability to work with major security frameworks, including CERT Critical Controls, ISO 27001, ISO 27002, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Confidence in preparing and presenting training material or speaking content for public or private events.
  • Ongoing awareness of current industry developments, including emerging threats, controls, regulations, and security trends.
  • Ability to refine and improve internal methodologies to deliver practical security and risk guidance.

Additional information

Before employment is confirmed, candidates will need to complete pre-employment police checks and, depending on the role, medical checks. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens and eligible to obtain a defence security clearance.
