JACK RYAN is hiring an experienced Senior Business Development Manager / New Business Development Manager to help drive growth in a busy, competitive media agency environment. This position focuses on generating brand-new commercial business, building a stronger sales pipeline, and winning larger-value deals. The agency works with clients in sectors such as health, education, and recruitment, using data-led advertising services to deliver measurable outcomes.

What you will do

  • Spot and pursue fresh business opportunities in priority target markets.
  • Work closely with marketing and internal stakeholders to plan and run lead generation activity.
  • Design and carry out outreach plans that help grow the private-sector client base.
  • Present solutions in a compelling way, showing how the media offering solves client challenges.
  • Explain product and service value clearly and move opportunities through to close.
  • Develop trusted relationships with clients, including senior executives and key decision-makers.
  • Support clients over time to help create durable partnerships.
  • Use CRM systems to manage leads, monitor pipeline progress, and keep interaction records accurate.
  • Handle pricing discussions, procurement conversations, and contract negotiations to reach workable agreements.
  • Partner with internal teams to shape proposals that are aligned to client objectives.
  • Work in line with company policies and relevant industry standards.
  • Keep up to date with market changes, competitor activity, and sector trends.
  • Look for upsell and cross-sell opportunities across the media product set.
  • Share client and market feedback with product and marketing teams.
  • Stay focused on lead nurturing, deal momentum, and closing business on time.

What you need

  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in media sales, ideally from an agency or media owner background.
  • A strong personal reputation for integrity, reliability, and fairness.
  • A demonstrated history of winning and retaining new business.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, along with the ability to create engaging content.
  • Strong ability to close deals.
  • Good time management and the ability to handle a sales territory effectively.
  • Resilience, flexibility, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Qualifications and technical experience

  • Ideally, a bachelor’s degree or an English A-Level, or Scottish equivalent, with a strong grade (B, A, or A+).
  • A degree is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
  • Background in media, digital marketing, recruitment, or professional services is desirable.
  • Comfort using digital marketing tools, CRM platforms, and professional networking tools.
  • Excellent written English, with strong grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
  • Strong technical admin skills, including document and spreadsheet formatting in Google Workspace.
  • Confidence in negotiation and presentation.
