Role overview
This opportunity sits within Global Functions Technology, a part of RBC’s Technology and Operations division. The team partners across the organization to deliver technology solutions that support areas such as Risk, Finance, Human Resources, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking, and Wealth Management. The group also builds digital tools and platforms that improve collaboration.
The position is for a Senior Business Analyst on the RISE team, supporting a multi-year insurance transformation initiative. The program is designed to strengthen IFRS 17 accounting outcomes and streamline the financial close process. RISE serves as RBC Insurance’s strategic subledger and calculation engine, using Aptitude products including Accounting Hub and Insurance Calculation Engine. It ingests information from the Enterprise Data Lake for Finance and Insurance, along with other authoritative reference-data systems, and performs the calculations needed to support IFRS 17-aligned accounting, subledger processing, allocations, monthly reporting, business review, and performance analysis.
What you will do
- Gather, assess, and document business needs, business rules, and source data inputs.
- Work closely with Insurance Finance and Actuarial stakeholders to interpret functional needs and produce the required analysis, documentation, and clarifications.
- Serve as the main point of contact for Finance and Actuarial users regarding assigned changes and enhancements.
- Partner with project managers, developers, quality engineers, and fellow business analysts to help deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Support testing, configuration and release activities, deployment, and post-implementation validation within the required timelines.
Required qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
- At least 5 years of experience in financial services with exposure to business transformation, system implementation, integration work, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Well-developed business analysis capabilities, including eliciting, synthesizing, assessing, and communicating findings.
- Solid knowledge of data models and practical experience with data analysis and database tools such as SQL and Excel, plus other analytical tools.
- Hands-on exposure to finance platforms such as product subledgers or ERP systems.
- Understanding of financial data movement, reporting, and reconciliation activities.
- Familiarity with Agile practices, terminology, and tools such as JIRA.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages to the audience, present clearly, and facilitate meetings.
- Experience using business analysis and requirements modeling methods such as data flow diagrams, relationship data models, and business process modeling.
- Ability to convert business needs into technical requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability to guide integrated teams through project work.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to insurance business lines or actuarial concepts.
- Previous experience in an insurance organization, or a background in risk or quantitative work.
- Working knowledge of IFRS 17.
- Experience with Aptitude Insurance Calculation Engine and/or Aptitude Accounting Hub.
- Experience with AI or data analytics, including machine learning, automation, or advanced analytics use cases.
- Practical support experience in P&L processes, valuation controls, and financial reporting.
- A constructive mindset and integrity when handling challenges.
- Ability to lead, coach, mentor, and provide useful feedback to others.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python.

Work details
