Job description

Role overview

We are hiring a Senior Auditor for a well-established and expanding accountancy practice in the Watford area. The role sits within a team that places real emphasis on technical quality, career growth, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

This is a strong opportunity for someone ready to move forward in their audit career, with exposure to a varied client base, more complex work, and a clear path for progression. You will work alongside managers and partners in a collaborative setting, while also helping to guide and develop junior colleagues.

The position combines roughly 80% audit work and 20% accounts preparation, offering a balanced mix of client-facing assignments and technical accounting tasks.

Key responsibilities

You will take ownership of audit work from planning through to final completion, while handling a diverse portfolio that includes larger and more complex clients.

The role also includes supervising junior staff, checking their work, preparing statutory and consolidated financial statements under FRS102, drafting corporation tax computations, and supporting group reporting and component audit assignments.

In addition, you will help prepare accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and LLPs, identify audit issues and practical recommendations, and make sure all work is delivered on time and within budget.

Maintaining strong client relationships will be an important part of the position, with responsibility for acting as a reliable contact throughout engagements.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will be ACA or ACCA qualified, or close to qualification, with at least 2.5 years of experience in a UK accountancy practice.

You should bring solid audit exposure across a range of sectors, together with sound knowledge of auditing standards and financial reporting requirements.

Experience in reviewing the work of others and supporting junior team members is important, along with strong communication skills and a confident, client-focused approach.

You will need to manage several assignments at once, prioritise effectively, and work well under deadlines. Familiarity with audit and accounts software would be helpful, and a proactive mindset with a desire to keep developing professionally is expected.

Benefits

This role offers a salary of £42,000 to £52,000, depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Other advantages include hybrid and flexible working, structured training, strong development support, clear progression routes, access to a varied client portfolio, a supportive team culture, and modern technology and equipment.

Additional information

The role is based in the Watford area and is suitable for hybrid working.

The work pattern is full-time and office-based with hybrid flexibility.

The position is intended for someone who wants to continue building a long-term career in accountancy practice.
