Role Overview

Marvelous is seeking a senior investor who will play a central role in shaping the future of the fund. This is a rare chance to join an early-stage industrial DeepTech fund while its portfolio, reputation, and long-term identity are still being formed. The position is hands-on and influential, with ownership across sourcing, diligence, investing, and portfolio support.

Marvelous backs Europe’s most ambitious industrial DeepTech founders at pre-seed and seed stage. The firm is also building a wider investment platform that may include a fund-of-funds, growth vehicles, and additional strategies. Its current focus spans three connected areas: Food, Agriculture & Land Use; Heavy Industry; and the Built Environment, with emphasis on Advanced Materials & Molecules, Waste Valorisation, and Robotics. The broader mission is to help build a future-fit economy that operates within planetary boundaries.

A defining part of Marvelous is The Catalyst, an industry collaboration network that connects portfolio companies with strategic industrial partners. These relationships can provide technical diligence, manufacturing access, pilot opportunities, and commercial pathways from the start. The team is intentionally small, high-performing, and low-ego, with every person expected to take real responsibility and contribute meaningfully.

What the Role Involves

The exact title will depend on the candidate’s seniority, but the scope remains the same: a full-cycle investing role with significant autonomy. You will originate opportunities, assess them thoroughly, help negotiate and structure deals, contribute to investment committee decisions, and build expertise in Marvelous’ verticals over time.

Sourcing and Deal Generation

• Create a proprietary pipeline of pre-seed and seed industrial DeepTech opportunities across Europe, the UK, and other relevant markets.
• Manage founder relationships, map spinout and accelerator ecosystems, and leverage co-investor networks to uncover opportunities early.
• Formulate original hypotheses and investment themes within the fund’s areas of focus.
• Represent Marvelous in ecosystem events, university programs, and industry communities, becoming a visible and trusted voice in the sector.

Diligence and Investment Decision-Making

• Run disciplined, end-to-end diligence covering technology maturity, market structure, competition, and founding team quality.
• Lead deal structuring, term sheet discussions, and transaction paperwork together with the responsible GP.
• Support legal diligence and commercial negotiations while coordinating with internal and external legal advisors.
• Draft clear, persuasive IC memos and present recommendations confidently.
• Coordinate expert input from industrial partners in The Catalyst network and external technical specialists.
• Help shape investment decisions directly; your judgment will carry weight.

Sector Expertise and External Thinking

• Build strong knowledge of regulation, technology trends, industry dynamics, economics, and key participants across advanced materials & molecules, waste valorisation, and robotics.
• Contribute analysis that strengthens Marvelous’ thesis and external reputation.
• Monitor new technologies, policy changes, and market movements that could affect the pipeline or portfolio.

Portfolio Support

• Develop close relationships with founders and provide practical strategic and commercial support.
• Lead onboarding and work with the partner in charge on ongoing portfolio monitoring.
• Take board observer or director roles where appropriate and help companies navigate early-stage growth challenges.
• Connect founders to the Catalyst network and the wider Marvelous ecosystem at the right moments.
• Assist with follow-on financing and contribute to thinking around exit strategy.

LP Relations and Fund Building

• Help prepare quarterly LP updates, ESG and impact reporting, and SFDR Article 9 compliance materials.
• Support LP relationship management and, over time, take part in future fundraising discussions.
• Contribute to communicating the firm’s strategy and public positioning.

Additional Information

Marvelous is open to candidates at either Senior Associate or Principal level, depending on experience. The firm reviews applications on a rolling basis and aims to move quickly for strong candidates. Instead of a cover letter, applicants are asked to submit a short note addressing motivation for industrial DeepTech investing, a sector or company they believe is underappreciated, and their view on the main challenge in making The Catalyst model effective.

Work Location and Mobility

The role is based in Berlin or London, or requires genuine readiness to relocate. The position involves travel across Europe to visit founders, industrial partners, and sector events.
