Job description
Role overview
The production team behind a major Minecraft roleplay channel is hiring a screenwriter to transform approved outlines into complete, production-ready scripts. The work supports a scripted YouTube series built in-house by writers, voice actors, editors, developers, and artists, where the script drives the entire production process.
Working arrangement
This position begins as ad-hoc, project-based freelance work and is expected to shift into a fixed part-time schedule from mid-August 2026. The ongoing schedule is two days per week, from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM BST, which corresponds in summer to 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM EDT or 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM PDT. The role is remote but limited to candidates based in the UK, EU, or US.
Work is available immediately on an ad-hoc basis, and the part-time arrangement is planned to start from mid-August 2026. The expected workload from that point is about 14 hours per week. Pay is issued per completed script.
What the role involves
You will take a beat-by-beat outline and established characters, then build them into a full script that is ready for recording, building, and editing. The writing needs to work for retention: the audience should be pulled in quickly, understand the stakes immediately, and stay engaged without the story becoming confusing.
The channel has a large youth audience, with a female-leaning skew, so the writing needs to feel energetic, clear, and emotionally engaging while still fitting the tone and lore of the series. A productive day is expected to result in roughly 4,000 to 5,000 words of finished script, which works out to around one completed script per 6 to 8 hour writing day.
Who they are looking for
The ideal candidate already understands Minecraft creators, Minecraft roleplay, and gaming YouTube as a viewer and storyteller. You should be comfortable with the rhythm, humour, and conventions of the format, and also be capable of writing strong structure, believable dialogue, and story momentum from start to finish.
Trial and hiring process
All new writers start with a paid trial of one or two scripts. This is used to evaluate fit for both sides before moving into a longer-term working arrangement.
Additional information
This role is for a channel with more than 1.75 million subscribers and over 250 million long-form views in the past year. The team expects scriptwriters to work within an established format and to communicate professionally, respond quickly to notes, and keep files and naming conventions organised.
Application note
Applicants are asked to submit writing samples or a portfolio through the company’s own application process.
