Job description

Role summary

This role sits within supply chain management and focuses on sourcing, buying, vendor follow-up, and expediting services. The position involves moving purchase requirements from request to order, ensuring supplies arrive on schedule, and supporting effective supplier coordination.

Key responsibilities

The work begins when a purchase requisition is received from the user department. From there, the role includes issuing RFQs, evaluating and negotiating vendor quotations, raising purchase orders, and following up to ensure delivery happens on time and supplier payments are processed without delay.

The incumbent is also expected to contribute to inventory control, cost reduction, process improvement, shorter delivery timelines, and better supplier capacity planning.

Another important part of the role is tracking market movement in input material prices so negotiations remain effective and informed.

Vendor performance must be reviewed regularly in coordination with QA. The role includes creating vendor ratings and taking action to improve supplier performance or identify alternate sources when needed.

Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and bringing in new vendors whenever required are also core expectations.

Technical capabilities

The position calls for experience in identifying and developing new suppliers, working confidently with SAP ERP material modules, handling multiple suppliers, and applying strong commercial and cost-negotiation knowledge. A sound understanding of commercial terms, conditions, and cash flow is also important.

Soft skills and working style

The job requires the ability to gather inputs from different user departments, convert requisitions into purchase orders quickly, and support accurate material planning. Good coordination with internal stakeholders and vendors is essential, along with a systematic, methodical approach, teamwork, and relationship-building ability.

Administrative expectations

The role also includes planning one’s own schedule, sharing updates and reports on time with seniors and other concerned teams, and expediting supplier deliveries while ensuring quality requirements are maintained.
