School Crossing Patrol

Role overview

The Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is looking for a School Crossing Patrol in Armoy to help children cross roads safely on the way to and from school. The post focuses on managing road crossing points, directing traffic where needed, using hazard warning signs, and spotting any risks along the roadside.

Main duties

• Supervise children at crossing points and help maintain order and safety.
• Follow the Education Authority’s published instructions for school crossing patrol staff.
• Perform the role in line with the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, all relevant legislation, statutory requirements, and approved codes of practice.
• Work in the normal conditions associated with the post.
• Complete any required documentation and administrative paperwork.
• Take on duties at the same grade when they are within the employee’s capability, and carry out other similar tasks that are appropriate to the grade as needed.

Selection criteria

Applicants are expected to show clearly on the form how they meet the required criteria, as shortlisting will depend on the information provided. If the number of applications is high, the panel may also use desirable criteria to narrow the field of candidates.

• Experience of working with children and/or members of the public.

This role involves regulated activity with children or young people under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007. If you are recommended for appointment, an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background will be required. You will be expected to pay the cost of the Enhanced Disclosure Certificate, and payment instructions will be provided before employment starts.
