The Role
Etqan Global Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counsellor (Female) to join our team in Doha, Qatar. This role involves providing comprehensive counselling support across all school phases, integrating social-emotional wellbeing with academic and university guidance for our diverse student body.
Responsibilities
- Deliver individual and small-group counselling to students in Early Years, Primary, and Secondary, addressing social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health concerns.
- Identify students facing challenges and implement timely, culturally sensitive support plans.
- Offer comprehensive university counselling to DP and IBCP students, assisting with applications, personal statements, and exploring destinations in Qatar, the UK, USA, and internationally.
- Guide MYP students in their subject selections and academic path planning.
- Organize and lead university visits, careers fairs, higher education events, and workshops for parents.
- Foster strong professional relationships with parents and families, maintaining open communication regarding student wellbeing and academic progress.
- Serve as a key member of the school's safeguarding team, ensuring accurate and confidential record-keeping of all counselling interventions.
- Contribute to school-wide wellbeing initiatives, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
The Successful Candidate Will Possess
- A postgraduate degree in Counselling, School Counselling, or Educational Psychology, with current membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., BACP, ACA, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a school counselling or student support capacity.
- Proven experience in both social-emotional counselling and academic/university guidance.
- Familiarity with university application procedures for Qatar, the UK, USA, and other international locations.
- A solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols within an international setting.
- Exceptional cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication abilities, characterized by a warm, empathetic, and culturally sensitive demeanor.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English; Arabic language skills are a plus.
- Previous experience working in Qatar or the Middle East, and within an IB school environment, is advantageous.
- This position is exclusively for female applicants due to the cultural and community needs of EGA's student population.
