Role Overview
An Environmental Laboratory in Perth Airport is looking for a careful and well-organised Sample Receipt Officer to support day-to-day laboratory operations. This is a full-time, onsite position with working hours from Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. In this role, you will be the first contact for incoming samples and will help ensure the process from receipt through to client reporting runs accurately and efficiently.
Key Duties
- Receive incoming samples by unpacking, sorting, and checking their condition and correctness.
- Enter sample details into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Maintain high standards of accuracy in all data entry tasks.
- Work with clients to address questions related to sample receipt or transport.
- Keep section leaders informed about incoming sample volumes and workloads.
- Prepare and send bottle orders within the required time limits.
- Carry out sub-sampling and filtration tasks when needed.
- Arrange subcontracting for samples and organise freight logistics.
- Oversee warehouse storage and ensure samples are disposed of in a compliant manner.
- Follow up and resolve client and internal enquiries without delay.
- Ensure work practices meet Quarantine Approved Premise requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements and ongoing operational efficiency.
- Help maintain a safe workplace by identifying and reporting hazards immediately.
- Assist with any other tasks needed to keep the laboratory running smoothly.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant is proactive, highly organised, and comfortable working in a fast-moving team setting. You should have strong attention to detail, sound communication skills, and the flexibility to adapt to changing duties and working hours.
Qualifications and Experience
- A diploma or degree in a scientific field, or relevant practical experience in a laboratory setting.
- Previous use of a LIMS is preferred.
- Experience or training in laboratory operations or people management would be an advantage.
Working Pattern
This role follows a Monday to Friday schedule, from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
