Job description
Role overview
This position is for a Route Surveyor specialising in heavy haulage and specialist transport. The role focuses on creating practical multi-modal transport and logistics solutions for both internal teams and external clients. You will work alongside the Heavy Lift and Specialist Transport team to develop engineered transport plans that comply with specifications, site restrictions, commercial objectives, and project deadlines.
The role can be carried out from anywhere in the UK, but it involves regular travel and overnight stays.
Salary is up to £55,000 plus benefits.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare transport drawings using information provided by the customer.
- Assess route options, verify their feasibility, and take the NH Water Preferred Policy into account.
- Visit sites to identify transport constraints, limitations, and potential risks.
- Perform swept path analysis for possible restrictions and record the findings in a route feasibility study or route report before sharing them with the customer.
- Work with consultants on structural assessments and route limitations.
- Make sure all HSQE documents are completed on schedule and meet the required project standards.
- Coordinate with the Head of Project Delivery so routing surveys and permit requirements are delivered on time and to the expected quality.
- Manage the allocated budget and aim to achieve profit on each work package.
- Contribute to the preparation and delivery of technical transport route surveys and feasibility studies.
- Create and refine multi-modal transport and lifting concepts.
Requirements
- An engineering qualification, or equivalent experience demonstrating the same level of knowledge.
- Understanding of the heavy lift and transport sector.
- A full driving licence with Category B1.
- Strong spoken and written communication abilities.
- Good IT capability, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD or a similar platform.
- Well-developed organisational skills, both personally and professionally.
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills.
- Willingness to travel and stay away from home for varying periods.
Additional information
This role requires travel and overnight stays of varying lengths as part of the normal work pattern.
Compensation
Annual salary is advertised at up to £55,000, plus benefits.
