Job description
Role overview
The Room Attendant is responsible for maintaining clean, orderly guest rooms and hallway areas throughout the hotel. This role supports housekeeping standards by ensuring rooms are serviced properly and guests experience a safe, tidy, and welcoming environment.
Key duties
- Follow hotel housekeeping procedures to clean, dust, wax, scrub, polish, and service guest rooms each day.
- Restock the housekeeping cart with guest room supplies at the start and end of each shift.
- Provide a courteous greeting to guests encountered on the floor.
- Change bed linens and replenish amenities and other room supplies.
- Remove trash from wastebaskets.
- Reset furniture, drapes, and room accessories to the standard layout.
- Leave each room arranged according to the Executive Housekeeper’s instructions, with the door shut and locked.
- Report damage, safety concerns, repair needs, and any unauthorized persons noticed in assigned areas.
- Hand in all items discovered in guest rooms, hallways, or back-of-house areas to the Housekeeping team as lost and found, including the date, location found, item description, and finder’s name.
- Keep responsibility for all keys issued for the shift.
- Maintain cleanliness in corridors and service areas.
- Support housekeeping projects and special requests from management.
- Carry out any other tasks assigned or considered necessary by management.
Qualifications
The position calls for a high school education or equivalent, or up to six months of related experience/training, or a comparable mix of education and experience. Candidates should be able to read simple text, identify similarities and differences in words and number sequences, and write and speak basic sentences. The role also requires using practical judgment to follow written or verbal instructions and handle routine issues appropriately.
Guest service and safety expectations
Applicants must be able to communicate with guests and identify situations that need prompt supervisory attention. Safe and responsible handling of guest areas, belongings, and hotel security is essential.
Physical requirements
This job involves frequent standing, walking, using hands to handle objects and tools, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and communicating. Sitting, reaching, climbing, and balancing may also be required at times. The employee must be able to regularly lift and move 25-30 pounds and frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
