Job description

Summary

This role supports a team focused on Real-Time Intelligence, Fabric IQ, and Observability within Azure Data. The User Researcher III will contribute to research initiatives aimed at understanding the needs, behaviors, and workflows of data professionals and other technical users. The ideal candidate will possess strong research execution skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine interest in the data and analytics domain, coupled with curiosity about the tools and challenges faced by modern data teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and execution of qualitative research studies, including in-depth interviews, to gain a deeper understanding of user workflows, identify unmet needs, and pinpoint experience gaps.
  • Conduct and support qualitative research activities, such as moderating interviews, performing usability tests, and synthesizing open-ended feedback, to derive actionable insights into the requirements of technical users.
  • Execute qualitative research using methodologies like semi-structured interviews, contextual inquiry, and usability studies to uncover the working methods of data professionals, areas of difficulty, and desired product experiences.
  • Aid in participant recruitment and scheduling, manage study logistics, take detailed notes, and handle other operational aspects of research execution.
  • Analyze and summarize research findings into clear deliverables, including notes, identified themes, presentations, and comprehensive summary reports.
  • Help maintain organized research documentation and repositories to facilitate the sharing and referencing of insights by the wider team.
  • Provide support across multiple research projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes and adherence to timelines.
  • Assist in identifying trends within user feedback and surfacing insights that can guide product and design decisions.
  • Support the team in conducting research activities in accordance with privacy regulations, consent requirements, and other applicable standards.

Skills

  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication, with strong organizational abilities and a keen eye for detail.
  • Capacity to work autonomously, manage time efficiently, and concurrently support multiple research initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience with fundamental user research methodologies, including interviews, usability testing, surveys, and qualitative data synthesis.
  • Ability to clearly document findings and produce well-structured research reports.
  • Comfort and aptitude for working within technical product environments or rapidly acquiring knowledge of complex technical domains.
  • A genuine interest in data, analytics, and the workflows of technical users.
  • Familiarity with enterprise software, cloud technologies, analytics platforms, or developer-focused tools is advantageous.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Information Science, Market Research, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 4 to 6 years of experience in user research, UX research, market research, or a comparable role.
  • Prior experience researching enterprise, technical, or data-centric products is highly desirable.

Additional Information

This role is compensated at an hourly rate of $55.00 - $60.00. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay at 1.5 times their base hourly rate for hours worked over 40 in a week, or as mandated by local regulations. The final salary offered will be determined by factors such as relevant skills, education, and experience.
