Role overview
This secondment opening is for an experienced nurse at Band 6 level to join the Research Nursing Team at the National Institute for Health Research UCLH Clinical Research Facility (CRF). The team delivers advanced specialist nursing support to patients enrolled in early-stage clinical trials involving experimental cancer and medicine therapies, including first-in-human studies and early-phase work across Oncology, Haematology, Neurology, Medicine, and Vaccine research.
About the Clinical Research Facility
The NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility operates across two locations. The Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square is focused on experimental medicine in neuroscience, while the NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility in Tottenham Court Road serves as a comprehensive cancer and medical research site.
Key duties
The role requires practice in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidance. The post holder will coordinate and support clinical trials within the CRF, working closely with patients, sponsors, and the wider clinical team.
- Coordinate care for patients participating in research studies.
- Collect, process, and prepare biological samples.
- Administer investigational treatments and other experimental interventions.
- Monitor and respond to anticipated and unexpected treatment-related effects.
- Provide clear education and support to patients and carers.
- Help patients understand trial participation so they can make informed decisions, while acting as their advocate.
- Liaise with pharmaceutical companies and other study sponsors when needed.
- Ensure data is recorded accurately and submitted in line with protocols and research governance requirements.
- Cover duties for Senior Research Nurses when required.
- Support the induction and ongoing development of new CRF team members.
Working pattern
The standard CRF working day is from 09:00 to 17:00. At times, the post may also involve evening, night, or weekend shifts.
