Job description
Role overview
Citywire is hiring a Reporter to join its energetic, deadline-driven editorial team in London. The role focuses on finding exclusive stories, speaking with influential people across the financial advice and investment sectors, and producing sharp analysis for a readership of financial advisers.
The ideal candidate is curious, ambitious, and confident building trusted relationships with sources. You should be able to work quickly, think independently, and produce original reporting rather than relying on press releases.
Key responsibilities
- Feed Citywire’s daily online news coverage by uncovering original story leads and interviewing important voices in the financial advice and broader investment world.
- Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within the advice community through networking and regular interviews.
- Report on topics such as the activity of financial planning firms, how businesses are responding to changing regulation, and the effect of wider investment trends on client portfolios.
- Scoop exclusive stories that are relevant to advisers and contribute to supporting the publication’s subscription-led business model.
What the role requires
- A genuine interest in finance and a willingness to learn more about the sector; prior exposure to financial topics is helpful but not mandatory.
- Evidence of reporting ability, including news writing and feature writing experience gained through internships, student journalism, or work placements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport, ask informed questions, and explain complex subjects in a clear way.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving newsroom and delivering to strict deadlines.
- The initiative to work independently, pursue leads actively, and develop stories that matter to the audience.
