About the Role

This position is focused on building, managing, and growing relationships with commercial customers in the business banking segment. The role is designed to deepen customer engagement by ensuring clients use the bank’s products and services in ways that best support their businesses.

What You Will Do

The role is split between sales/service activities and risk/control responsibilities.

Sales and Service account for 80% of the role and include managing customer relationships, driving product usage, and expanding the business portfolio.

  • Deliver agreed targets for liabilities, assets, and income.
  • Run a proactive outreach schedule using both in-person and telephone contact with current and prospective customers.
  • Build a pipeline of new business leads through networking, conversations with SME advisers in branches, and participation in relevant events such as social gatherings, seminars, trade fairs, and industry forums.
  • Dedicate at least 75% of available working time to meeting customers and prospects.
  • Prepare relationship plans that cover sales direction and contact strategy for each customer.
  • Collaborate with product specialists such as Trade Finance and Treasury to increase uptake of these offerings.
  • Handle customer complaints and work toward practical resolutions.
  • Identify the most suitable products for customer needs and sell them quickly when opportunities arise, whether the need is anticipated or immediate.
  • Track service standards and make sure risk-related service expectations are met.
  • Write call reports in the required format for all scheduled major business meetings.
  • Research prospects and maintain follow-up activity on target accounts for new business growth.
  • Use customer prioritisation guidelines to identify accounts with the strongest current and future value.
  • Manage the portfolio within approved limits.
  • Maintain strong operational discipline by following RMCD guidelines, KYC and STM procedures, and all other applicable banking policies.
  • Coach and support the Manager’s Assistant on a day-to-day basis to ensure consistent service quality and risk awareness.

Risk and Control represent 20% of the role and require full compliance with regulatory obligations, the operational risk framework, and internal standards and policies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies is required.
  • The role calls for strong compliance discipline and the ability to operate within regulatory and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience in managing commercial client relationships, business banking sales, and portfolio growth is implied by the responsibilities.
  • Capability to work in a customer-facing environment, handle complaints, and coordinate with specialist banking teams is important.

Education

Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies.

Additional Information

This role requires regular customer visits and a significant amount of time spent in the field. It also involves adherence to risk management, operational control, KYC, STM, and other internal banking procedures.
