Job description

Role Overview

This position sits within the ROI Operations function and reports to the Head of Operations for PFS. The Regional Manager will take ownership of full profit-and-loss performance across the Munster region, with accountability for sales volumes, margins, and operating costs. The role also carries responsibility for maintaining strong customer service, food quality, employee engagement and development, compliance, food safety, and site cleanliness across Petrol Filling Station stores.

Applegreen is expanding quickly, and this role is intended for a confident, hands-on leader who can integrate well with the business and drive results across a fast-changing retail environment.

Core Responsibilities

Leading regional performance will involve improving sales, meeting budget targets, and resolving issues that may stand in the way of growth. The role requires a strong understanding of profitability, with active control of sales costs and labour expenses. The manager will regularly review store financials, compare results with plans, and work with store leaders to build weekly and annual budgets while keeping costs within target.

People leadership is a major part of the position. This includes overseeing recruitment, training, and development for management teams, coaching Store Managers, completing timely and accurate performance reviews, and ensuring development plans are followed through for managers and their teams.

Operational excellence is expected across all sites in the region. The Regional Manager will make sure standards for service, product quality, stock handling, cleanliness, safety, and staff presentation are consistently met or exceeded. Weekly checklists must be reviewed, best practice shared between stores, and employee and customer feedback gathered and acted on to improve the business.

The role also requires clear internal communication. The manager must stay up to date on products, pricing, marketing, industry trends, and community developments, then relay relevant information to teams and ensure directives from leadership, newsletters, and suppliers are understood and executed.

Community and marketing activity form another part of the job. The Regional Manager will support charity initiatives, fundraising, local involvement, and community relationships, while also reviewing marketing options to identify what delivers value and makes informed recommendations on how annual marketing spend should be used.

Support for new store openings and rebranding activity is also expected, including helping store teams plan and deliver successful grand opening activity.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should bring 5 to 8 years of management experience in retail, hospitality, or food-related brands. The ideal person will be a strong people leader and an effective role model for the Applegreen brand, able to work independently, take ownership, and deliver outcomes in a demanding environment.

Success in this role requires a solutions-focused approach, resilience under pressure, strong decision-making, and the ability to balance several priorities at once. Experience with retail operations, including paperwork, till systems, and reports, is important, as is the ability to influence others, collaborate across teams, and build strong relationships with stakeholders throughout the organisation.

The role also calls for a highly organised individual with the ability to plan work effectively, manage deadlines, adapt to shifting priorities, and execute tasks to a high standard and at pace. Strong analytical ability, commercial awareness, and the confidence to interpret and challenge data are important. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, is essential. A willingness to travel is also required.

Additional Attributes

The successful candidate should show drive, enthusiasm, commitment, and a genuine interest in building a career with Applegreen. They should bring a positive mindset, the ability to work collaboratively in an interconnected business, and the leadership potential to support Applegreen’s people and culture.

Additional Information

Preferred background includes experience in a progressive, fast-growing organisation that has gone through significant change. Knowledge of the retail environment and customer expectations is an advantage.

Perks and Working Style

This is an opportunity to join a business in a period of rapid growth and take on a high-impact leadership role with wide regional responsibility.
