Job description

Role overview

This Wellington-based opportunity sits within a respected engineering consultancy focused on transport and infrastructure delivery across New Zealand. The role is suited to an engineer who wants to be actively involved in project execution, rather than remaining in a purely desk-based position. You will contribute to a range of rail and civil infrastructure assignments and support delivery from early design through to construction completion.

What you'll do

  • Lead coordination across multidisciplinary engineering work from concept stage through construction.
  • Provide technical support for rail and civil infrastructure project delivery.
  • Examine engineering drawings, reports, and other technical project documents.
  • Work with designers, contractors, and wider project stakeholders to keep work aligned.
  • Track schedules, delivery milestones, risks, and overall programme progress.
  • Assist with Safety in Design activities and quality control procedures.
  • Keep an eye on budgets, progress, and key project outputs.
  • Support construction phases and site-based tasks where needed.
  • Develop productive client relationships that help achieve successful project results.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing technical engineering work with project coordination and delivery responsibilities. A strong civil, rail, or infrastructure background is preferred, along with hands-on experience supporting both design and construction stages.

Why this role stands out

  • Opportunity to contribute to a broad and varied portfolio of infrastructure projects.
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment with strong technical capability.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Access to ongoing learning, professional development, and leadership growth.
  • Clear opportunities to progress your career within a growing business.
  • A workplace where contributions are noticed and ideas are appreciated.

Candidate profile

  • Approximately 6 to 10+ years of experience in civil, rail, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Background delivering engineering or infrastructure projects across design and construction phases.
  • Strong coordination skills and confidence managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Good technical grounding, including experience reviewing or contributing to designs.
  • Exposure to contractor coordination, construction support, or site delivery.
  • Clear and confident communication, especially when dealing directly with clients.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities while maintaining high delivery standards.

Additional notes

Experience in rail infrastructure will be viewed favourably, although applicants from broader civil infrastructure backgrounds are also encouraged to express interest. The employer is open to a confidential discussion for candidates wanting more details before applying.
