Job description
Role overview
Currock Engineering Company Limited is looking to add an experienced and capable Quality Inspector to its Quality Control team on the late/night shift because of a heavier workload. The business has recently benefited from substantial investment, and for a limited period this position includes a £2,000 sign-on bonus, subject to the terms of the scheme.
What you will do
- Carry out detailed inspections and tests on products, materials, and components to confirm they meet quality requirements, technical specifications, and regulatory obligations under AS9100.
- Keep accurate inspection and test documentation, including measurements, observations, and any defects or deviations identified.
- Check that products and processes follow the company’s quality procedures, relevant industry rules, and safety standards.
- Spot, record, and escalate defects, variations, or non-conforming items in materials, products, or processes so corrective action can be taken.
- Pull random samples from production lots, shipments, or stock and assess them for quality.
- Inspect first article, in-process, and completed goods, using tools such as callipers, micrometers, shadow graph equipment, digital height gauges, and CMMs.
- Report non-conformances, unsafe conditions, faulty or uncalibrated equipment, and procedures that are not being followed to the Team Leader.
- Work with production and engineering teams to find improvement opportunities that raise product quality and operational efficiency.
- Complete visual and dimensional checks against customer drawings, with a solid grasp of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Review and interpret customer specifications and requirements.
- Inspect incoming raw materials to confirm consistency and integrity.
- Help introduce 5S and other Lean practices that support operational excellence.
- Support health, safety, and environmental initiatives aimed at certification to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Follow company health and safety rules and help ensure everyone on site does the same, including supporting the work of the Health & Safety Committee directly or through your team.
Skills and experience required
- Strong knowledge of quality control methods and inspection practices.
- Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Confident use of inspection and measurement equipment, including micrometers, callipers, shadow graph, digital height gauge, and CMMs.
- Willingness to investigate root causes of defects and suggest practical corrective and preventive actions.
- Good understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
- Comfortable handling multiple tasks and reprioritising work as directed by the Team Leader.
- Strong time management, self-direction, and the ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision.
- Proactive attitude toward maintaining workplace health and safety.
- Experience working within a QMS and familiarity with AS9100 requirements.
- Practical knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques.
- Ability to use mechanical measuring tools; CMM experience is an advantage.
- Experience carrying out FAIRs to AS9102.
- Exposure to structured problem-solving methods is desirable.
- Internal auditing experience for ISO9001 or AS9100 is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Experience supporting PPAP, APQP, or PFMEA activities.
- Understanding of SPC/SQC is desirable but not essential.
- Basic knowledge of ISO45001 and ISO14001 would be useful, though not required.
