Role Overview

West Cork Distillers is seeking a driven and motivated Quality Assurance Analyst to join its Quality team. This multifaceted role involves overseeing quality assurance activities within a specific business unit, conducting laboratory tests, participating in technical investigations, and contributing to site-wide quality systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in upholding product quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This position offers a pathway for career development within Quality and Technical functions, providing exposure to quality management systems, food safety protocols, laboratory operations, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage quality assurance tasks and performance metrics for an assigned business unit.
  • Assist in the implementation, upkeep, and enhancement of the company's Quality Management System.
  • Lead and oversee specific prerequisite programs across the site to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.
  • Perform regular quality checks, audits, and verification procedures during production.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to investigate quality issues, non-conformances, and customer feedback, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate external laboratory testing and manage subsequent follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate quality records, certificates of analysis, and necessary compliance documentation.
  • Support customer, third-party, and regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Contribute to quality reporting, key performance indicator (KPI) tracking, and management review meetings.
  • Monitor and evaluate product quality throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct routine sensory evaluations of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods.
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in product trials, process validation activities, and new product development efforts.
  • Support cross-functional projects aimed at improving quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Assist with routine laboratory testing and sample management.
  • Support analytical and instrumental testing under supervision and after competency development.
  • Engage in laboratory investigations and technical problem-solving.
  • Develop technical laboratory proficiencies through practical experience and formal training.
  • Foster strong working relationships with operational and technical teams.
  • Champion a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Enhance skills in root cause analysis, project management, problem-solving, and leadership.
  • Assist with training and knowledge dissemination across the organization as needed.

Requirements

  • A degree or diploma in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Brewing & Distilling, or a related scientific field is essential.
  • Previous experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, a laboratory setting, manufacturing, or within the FMCG, Food, Beverage, or Pharmaceutical sectors is required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, conduct investigations, and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • A proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Experience with quality systems like BRCGS, ISO, or similar standards is advantageous.
  • Prior laboratory experience, including familiarity with analytical testing methods, is a plus.
  • Experience with sensory evaluation programs is desirable.
  • Internal auditing experience would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience in the food, beverage, brewing, distilling, pharmaceutical, or related manufacturing industries is preferred.
