Job description
Role overview
This position is based in Dublin and runs on a full-time, fixed-term contract of 2 years. The post sits on the Focus Ireland salary scale, with a starting annual salary in the range of €36,687 to €39,856.49.
The role exists to support a team delivering professional services, food access, respite, and practical advice and information to single adults who are without accommodation or at risk of homelessness. The coffee shop environment is intended to feel safe and welcoming, encouraging social inclusion and helping customers participate more actively in the service.
Key duties
- Carry out the role in line with the organisation’s overall objectives.
- Follow the policies, procedures, and operating standards that apply to the organisation and specifically to the coffee shop service.
- Work according to the organisation’s model of practice and service standards.
- Stay alert to health, safety, and welfare concerns in the workplace and escalate any issues to the line manager or health and safety representative.
- Adhere to all on-site policies while working in the coffee shop.
- Take part in a flexible seven-day rota to support service delivery.
- Complete the daily tasks assigned within the coffee shop.
- Help maintain a safe and respectful environment by reducing the likelihood of incidents or harmful behaviour, in line with TCI and violence-management policies.
- Engage with service users, observe behaviour, respond to emergencies as directed, and record/report incidents and observations for staff communication.
- Support day-to-day cleaning of the service.
- Maintain accurate contact records, daily logs, and written incident and child protection reports.
- Support the induction and mentoring of new team members by demonstrating effective working practices.
- Prepare monthly reports when requested by management.
- Work collaboratively with other Focus Ireland teams and with statutory or voluntary agencies where appropriate.
- Attend team, section, divisional, organisational, and external agency meetings and training as required.
- Participate in regular supervision sessions with the line manager.
- Work with the line manager to keep developing the role so duties are delivered effectively and in support of the organisation’s strategic goals.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned in consultation with the line manager.
Requirements
- A relevant third-level qualification in social care-related fields such as youth work, social studies, addiction, or psychology.
- At least 2 years of experience in social care working with disadvantaged people.
- Experience supporting marginalised individuals who present with high-risk or challenging behaviour.
- Understanding of the issues affecting people who are out of home and the impact these have on physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing and development.
- Proven experience working as part of a team with shared objectives.
- Knowledge of homeless-sector services is an advantage.
- Awareness of child protection concerns and how to respond appropriately is an advantage.
