Role overview

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a seasoned Project Director to steer the delivery of major construction schemes in the building envelope and façade space. The position carries end-to-end responsibility for project outcomes, with a focus on safe delivery, quality, commercial performance, operational efficiency, and contribution to wider business strategy.

About the client

The hiring company is a specialist contractor operating in the building envelope and façade sector, delivering technically complex, high-value projects across Ireland and the UK. Known for quality, innovation, and reliable execution, the organisation is looking to strengthen its senior management team with a commercially astute strategic leader.

Key responsibilities

  • Take full leadership accountability for delivering multiple projects successfully, making sure they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required standard of quality.
  • Guide, coach, and develop Contracts Managers and site management personnel.
  • Monitor and improve profitability across all live projects, including financial control and performance.
  • Create and roll out KPI systems to track health and safety, quality, programme progress, and commercial results.
  • Work with Design and Operations teams to shape project planning and construction programmes.
  • Track contractual obligations and ensure all requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead commercial and contractual negotiations with main contractors, including final account resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee contract administration, subcontract agreements, notices, and project records.
  • Assess budgets, margins, cashflow projections, and commercial reports for ongoing projects.
  • Assist Contracts Managers and Quantity Surveyors in commercial discussions and payment negotiations.
  • Direct workforce planning, resource deployment, and capacity management across projects.
  • Encourage a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and ownership at project level.
  • Coordinate with Design, Production, Procurement, Finance, HR, and Health & Safety teams to improve delivery outcomes.
  • Contribute to tendering and pre-construction work when needed.
  • Prepare performance updates for senior leadership, including risks and opportunities.
  • Play an active role in strategic planning as part of the Senior Management Team.
  • Promote operational improvements, efficiency measures, and best-practice adoption across the business.

Requirements

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Formal project management training would be an advantage.
  • Substantial industry experience may be accepted in place of formal academic qualifications.
  • At least 10 years of experience in senior leadership positions within construction, manufacturing, or other project-led environments.
  • A strong history of delivering large and complex projects successfully, on time and within budget.
  • Relevant experience in the building envelope and façade sector in Ireland and/or the UK.
  • Good understanding of current construction methods and end-to-end project delivery processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, construction law, and dispute resolution.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, team development, and stakeholder management capability.
  • Solid commercial judgement, including experience managing profit and cashflow.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and project reporting tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Full driving licence required.
  • Managing Safely in Construction certification, or an equivalent qualification, is required.

Benefits

  • Competitive executive-level salary package.
  • The chance to take on a significant leadership role in a respected and expanding organisation.
  • Exposure to high-profile, technically demanding projects.
  • Strong potential for career growth and long-term progression.
  • A collaborative environment at senior management level.
  • Further benefits will be shared during the hiring process.
  • Travel to project locations and key suppliers may be required.
