It involves guiding employees so work stays aligned with TAKT targets, company policies, and established procedures. The supervisor also helps maintain compliance with the company’s health, safety, and environmental standards, while serving as a communication bridge to senior leadership to help drive business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily departmental work so output aligns with customer needs, TAKT timing, and LEAN manufacturing methods; support and implement department improvements through Kaizen activities when needed.
  • Confirm that finished work meets quality expectations, work with the Material Review Board on non-conforming materials, and ensure quality issues are followed through to root-cause resolution.
  • Track departmental spending, keep management informed on budget status, and escalate financial concerns when necessary.
  • Allocate and balance work across the line, ensure employees are trained and authorized for their tasks, encourage Lean learning, and manage performance to support TAKT-time goals.
  • Promote safe work practices, make sure equipment and processes follow H&S/E requirements, take proactive action on safety concerns, and lead investigations or enforcement actions when required.
  • Coach employees on expectations and job requirements, ensure compliance with company rules and policies such as Plant Rules, Plant Health & Safety Rules, Attendance, and Human Rights, and handle conduct or performance concerns through the corrective action process.
  • Maintain adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and respond to labor-relations matters appropriately.
  • Drive housekeeping and organization standards to achieve 5S targets, and contribute to other initiatives that improve business effectiveness, along with any additional duties assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 3 to 5 years of prior leadership experience, ideally in a manufacturing setting; experience in transit or automotive manufacturing is considered an advantage.
  • Previous exposure to a unionized workplace is an asset.
  • Welding experience would be beneficial.
  • A strong safety mindset, along with experience handling progressive discipline issues in a constructive manner.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, shown through education, progressive relevant experience, hands-on learning, and a willingness to continue developing professionally.
  • Comfort using computers, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
