Overview

Defaqto is looking for a Product / UI Designer to help shape a unified design system across its multi-brand digital estate. The role sits at the intersection of product and marketing design, supporting a transformation following several acquisitions across the adviser technology and insights space. The aim is to bring different platforms, brands and experiences into a single, scalable system that is ready for future AI-enabled workflows.

Role focus

This position contributes to two major workstreams: building a new CMS and website ecosystem that creates one joined-up digital experience, and designing the product experience for Defaqto Unity, the company’s consolidated adviser platform.

What you will deliver

  • A core Defaqto visual and interaction language that works across multiple brands as one family.
  • A scalable design system spanning Defaqto.com, Unity and related sub-brand websites.
  • A consistent experience across marketing pages and product interfaces.
  • Clear rules for what stays fixed across the ecosystem and what can adapt, such as tone, imagery and emphasis.
  • Design tokens covering colour, typography, spacing, layout, iconography and interaction states.
  • A full component library including navigation, forms, data presentation, call-to-action elements and state handling.
  • Interaction patterns for important user flows and different interface states.
  • Page templates and layout structures suitable for both marketing and product use cases.
  • Structured, explicit system documentation that can be used for AI-assisted page creation and maintenance without requiring interpretation.
  • Design support for end-to-end journeys from marketing content through to logged-in product usage.
  • Adviser journeys such as fact find, recommendation, submission and review.
  • Consumer journeys such as discovery, understanding and action.

Design principles

The work should reflect a single, coherent experience across marketing and product environments, use data as the foundation for interfaces, prioritise clarity and usability over decoration, remain consistent at scale, and follow a modular component-led approach, ideally using Atomic Design principles.

What success looks like

  • A design system that can expand across multiple brands without needing a redesign.
  • A smooth transition between website and product experiences.
  • Outputs that are structured enough to support AI-driven assembly.
  • Simple, intuitive design that can be understood quickly and applied consistently.

Requirements

  • A relevant qualification in UX, UI, Product Design or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of design systems and scalable UI architecture.
  • Experience designing both marketing websites and software products.
  • Exposure to multi-brand environments and complex digital ecosystems.
  • Awareness of AI-related design considerations would be an advantage.
  • Advanced capability in UI design, interaction design and component-based thinking.
  • The ability to convert complexity into clear, usable design patterns.
  • Excellent documentation skills with precise, structured and scalable outputs.
  • A collaborative style with the ability to work across product, marketing and technology teams.
  • Demonstrated experience building and delivering design systems at scale.
  • Experience working in complex, multi-product or post-acquisition settings.
  • Background in B2B, SaaS or platform-led products is strongly preferred.
  • Experience contributing to or leading major digital transformation programmes.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, short-term contract environment.
  • Ability to work independently while staying aligned to a broader vision.
  • A highly structured, detail-focused and pragmatic way of working.
  • A mindset geared toward scalable solutions rather than one-off designs.

Location and working pattern

This contract can be performed remotely within the UK or on a hybrid basis. Occasional attendance at the London office is preferred for collaboration and stakeholder meetings, but it is not mandatory.

Eligibility

Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK without time restrictions and without requiring future sponsorship. Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
