Job description

About the opportunity

Since 2005, MDCalc has played a central role in clinicians’ day-to-day workflows, helping support better patient outcomes. It is relied on by more than 65% of physicians globally and is one of the most widely used medical references at the point of care for clinical decision tools and content. The platform serves millions of healthcare professionals across 50+ specialties and covers 200+ patient conditions.

The role

This is a hands-on product design position within a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment. You will contribute to user product, commercial, and platform work, shaping experiences that are easy to understand, clinically trustworthy, and scalable. Working closely with Product and Engineering, you will take initiatives from early concept through launch while also contributing to user research. The role is well-suited to a designer who is comfortable moving between different problem spaces and who values craft at every stage of fidelity.

Key responsibilities

  • Design product improvements that help clinicians find, use, and revisit MDCalc more effectively.
  • Bring UX perspective into the product process from early problem definition through interaction design and final handoff materials.
  • Support design work for commercial surfaces, including ad placements, campaign-related UI, and client-facing tools where user experience connects with revenue.
  • Help build and maintain the design system so components remain consistent, accessible, and clearly documented.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to ensure design specifications are implemented accurately and identify when the delivered experience starts to diverge from the intended design.
  • Take part in user research by helping prepare discussion guides, observing sessions, and turning insights into design actions.
  • Use behavioral analytics and usability feedback to surface friction points and guide post-launch improvements.
  • Work alongside Product, Engineering, and Data in sprint and discovery activities as a full team member.
  • Explain design choices clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Juggle several projects at once across different product areas.

Background we’re looking for

We are seeking a designer with 3–5 years of UX design experience and a portfolio that shows end-to-end product design work. Strong interaction and visual design ability is needed across desktop and mobile experiences, along with comfort contributing to a design system. You should be able to manage multiple workstreams at the same time, communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and work directly with Engineers and Product Managers in an agile setting. Experience in healthcare, clinical tools, or professional SaaS is a plus. Familiarity with Figma, especially at the component level, is preferred. Exposure to research methods such as usability testing, interviews, and synthesis is important, as is experience designing information-heavy or data-dense interfaces. A working understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG is also expected.
