Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a proficient Process Engineer to spearhead the design, modelling, and enhancement of ZEN Carbon's CO₂ mineralization process. The role requires transforming laboratory-scale concepts into scalable industrial processes by leveraging expertise in reaction engineering, process simulation, design, and optimization. Collaborating closely with chemistry, mechanical, and automation teams, you will play a pivotal part in developing one of Africa's pioneering carbon mineralization technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize processes for CO₂ mineralization specifically aimed at concrete production.
  • Develop reaction kinetics models and assess process bottlenecks and limitations.
  • Create process simulations utilizing software such as DWSIM, Aspen Plus, or equivalents.
  • Conduct detailed material and energy balances along with process design calculations.
  • Generate Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and assist in selecting appropriate equipment.
  • Work on enhancing process efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and maximizing CO₂ utilization.
  • Contribute to reactor development, scale-up procedures, and pilot plant deployments.
  • Identify and analyze process risks, safety concerns, and opportunities for operational improvements.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory.
  • Solid knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass and energy balances.
  • Proficiency in process simulation tools such as DWSIM, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, or similar platforms.
  • Capability to produce process simulations, PFDs, and perform engineering calculations accurately.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving aptitude, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working autonomously within a dynamic startup setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with CO₂ utilization, carbon capture technologies, cement/concrete production, or pilot plant project involvement.
  • Familiarity with engineering modelling software like MATLAB or Python.

Benefits

  • Engage in cutting-edge carbon removal and climate technology projects.
  • Enjoy a high degree of autonomy and ownership from the outset.
  • Receive a competitive salary package.
