About the Role
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Wayland. This is an extraordinary job where you will be integral to the daily operations of a busy prison. You will support a team in various functions, including security checks at the gate, managing deliveries, overseeing visitors, and monitoring communications and CCTV footage. This role is dynamic, combining desk-based tasks with physical activities like lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles within the prison grounds.
Responsibilities
- Conduct security and searches at the prison gate.
- Manage and process incoming deliveries.
- Supervise visitor interactions.
- Monitor phone calls and CCTV feeds.
- Escort vehicles within the prison premises.
- Perform desk duties as required.
- Assist with lifting and carrying tasks.
Requirements
- No formal qualifications are required.
- Must possess good communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.
- Demonstrate good judgment and common sense.
- Must be a strong team player.
- Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and nights.
- Consideration for transport options to the rural location is important, as public transport may be limited. A driving licence and personal transport are beneficial but not mandatory unless specified.
