Job description
Role overview
Slieverue Community Playgroup is hiring an experienced and committed Preschool Manager to take on a leadership position from September 2026. This is a chance to help guide a long-running community preschool that has played an important role in Slieverue for many years. The position suits an early years professional who can lead confidently while also spending time directly with children as part of the everyday preschool programme.
This is a practical, front-line role in a small team, where management duties are combined with hands-on childcare and support for children’s learning and development.
Essential requirements
Candidates must hold QQI Level 6 in Early Learning and Care. Applicants without this qualification will not be considered.
We are looking for someone with prior experience in an early years environment, a strong working understanding of Aistear and Síolta, and excellent communication and organisational abilities. The role also requires someone who can guide, encourage, and coordinate a team effectively.
Key duties
The successful candidate will oversee the daily running of the preschool and afterschool service while also working directly with children during the programme.
Core duties include supporting children’s learning, development, and wellbeing; helping to maintain a safe, warm, and inclusive setting; designing and delivering activities aligned with Aistear and Síolta; and supervising, supporting, and mentoring team members.
You will also be expected to build strong relationships with children, families, and the local community, ensure compliance with Tusla and ECCE obligations, and manage the records, policies, and administrative tasks connected with the position.
Working conditions and offer
This is a term-time position with a supportive and friendly team. The role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children and families, within a well-established preschool that has strong community ties.
Start date: End of August 2026.
Application details
Interested candidates are invited to send their CV and cover letter by email. Only applicants meeting the QQI Level 6 requirement will be progressed.
