Role overview

The Department of Computer and Network Engineering in the College of IT at United Arab Emirates University is hiring a highly driven postdoctoral research fellow to contribute to an advanced AI initiative. The work centers on next-generation intelligent systems built with deep learning, vision-language models, large language models, multimodal learning, and evolutionary optimization.

The project aims to create scalable AI frameworks for visual interpretation, reasoning, automated report generation, decision support, and adaptive learning from multimodal inputs. The selected researcher will participate in advanced AI development spanning computer vision, multimodal transformers, generative AI, reinforcement learning, optimization methods, and explainable AI. The role combines model design, experimentation, publication-focused research, and deployment-ready system development.

Responsibilities

• Build and train deep learning and multimodal AI models.
• Create AI pipelines that integrate vision-language models and large language models.
• Develop transformer-based systems for both visual and textual analysis.
• Work with multimodal datasets that include images, time-based data, and structured records.
• Use evolutionary methods and optimization techniques to improve model adaptability.
• Run performance testing, ablation analysis, and benchmarking.
• Design AI solutions that are explainable and easy to interpret.
• Contribute to research papers for top AI conferences and journals.
• Support prototype deployment and integration into scalable AI systems.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong grounding in deep learning and neural network concepts.
• Hands-on experience with transformer architectures and attention mechanisms.
• Skilled in Python and deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience working with computer vision and multimodal AI solutions.
• Strong scientific writing and communication abilities.
• Preferred: publications in leading AI journals or conferences.
• Preferred: familiarity with large language models and vision-language models.
• Expected exposure to Vision Transformers, CLIP, BLIP, LLaVA, GPT-based systems, or similar architectures.
• Expected exposure to parameter-efficient fine-tuning methods such as LoRA, QLoRA, adapters, and RLHF.

Additional information

Salary range: AED 10,000 to AED 11,000 per month.
