Job description

Role Overview

This hotel plumbing role focuses on keeping all water and drainage systems running safely and efficiently across the property. The position covers repairs, installations, preventive upkeep, and rapid response to faults or emergencies so that guests and team members experience a comfortable and secure environment. The role also supports compliance with hotel procedures, safety requirements, and operational KPIs, including QA, SALT, HACCP, GTMS, and the Hotel Balance Scorecard.

Key Duties

  • Maintain, assemble, and install plumbing fixtures, equipment, and systems as required.
  • Monitor water treatment systems, review readings, and take action when results fall outside acceptable limits.
  • Carry out scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance on pipes, taps, toilets, showers, water heaters, and drainage networks.
  • Diagnose and fix plumbing faults in guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and other hotel facilities.
  • Clear drains, remove blockages, and repair damaged piping when needed.
  • Assist with installing audio/visual items in rooms or event spaces, such as microphones and lighting equipment, when support is required.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns, urgent service calls, and plumbing emergencies.
  • Follow the preventive maintenance plan, complete daily log sheets, and record readings accurately.
  • Keep tools in usable condition and maintain a tidy, well-organized work area.
  • React immediately to fire alarm activations and follow the approved response procedure.
  • Support guestroom maintenance work according to the planned schedule.
  • Inspect guest rooms, VIP rooms, lobbies, corridors, and public areas to confirm they are in proper condition.
  • Address special guest needs, such as arranging replacement appliances, in coordination with supervisors.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to keep plumbing systems operating at peak performance.

Control and Inventory

  • Track plumbing spare parts stock levels and place advance requests to avoid shortages.
  • Understand the repairs and maintenance budget and work within the approved limits.
  • Watch utility usage and report observations to the supervisor for control actions.
  • Apply cost-control practices to reduce waste and limit losses.

Inspections and Audits

  • Review guest rooms and public spaces for defects and correct issues where possible.
  • Inspect plant rooms and equipment regularly, keeping them clean, orderly, and free from unauthorized storage.
  • Follow all municipal requirements, regulations, environmental rules, QA, HACCP, safety, and security procedures.
  • Join daily team briefings and share updates on assigned work.
  • Complete shift handovers carefully and pass on all important information.
  • Support colleagues whenever additional help is needed.
  • Maintain complete records for plumbing plant and equipment.
  • Submit material requests early and follow up with the Engineering Admin/Coordinator for spare parts.
  • Take part in meetings and hotel events as required.

Energy and Systems Monitoring

  • Monitor GRMS and BMS systems to confirm they are working efficiently.
  • Walk the property regularly to identify energy-saving opportunities.
  • Keep a close eye on electricity, gas, and water consumption, and report possible reduction areas without affecting guest comfort.

Support, Conduct, and Service Standards

  • Attend training sessions run by the Engineering department and the hotel, and complete required online learning on time.
  • Follow Hilton brand standards within the Engineering department.
  • Observe all Health, Safety, and Environment procedures, controls, and emergency response requirements.
  • Apply service standards consistently in day-to-day work.
  • Respond to guest questions with helpful information, directions, and assistance.
  • Help Engineering operations deliver strong guest satisfaction, service quality, and efficiency while supporting KPI targets such as QA, SALT, GTMS, Safety, and Security.
  • Handle guest concerns professionally and ensure comfort needs are met.
  • Seek guidance when needed to improve performance and service delivery.
  • Carry out additional tasks assigned by management.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal grooming and hygiene at all times.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

The role calls for solid technical knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and repair methods, along with experience in building operations and maintenance. Familiarity with fire life safety systems, building management systems, QA, HACCP, and safety/security procedures is also important. Strong spoken and written English, good customer handling, and the ability to work carefully, quickly, accurately, and with minimal supervision are essential. The candidate must also be able to follow safety procedures and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
