Role Summary
The Pleat Folder I is responsible for folding completed draperies on a fan fold machine. The position focuses on accurate, neat folding that meets quality expectations and prepares each item for the next step in production.
Key Duties
- Take finished draperies from the Drapery Inspector.
- Check the work ticket to confirm whether the item is a panel or a pair, and identify left or right panels when applicable.
- Place the drapery on the hanger arm of the fan fold machine.
- Position pleats correctly between the machine fingers to ensure proper folding.
- Attach paper bands to the hanging drapery.
- Mark each piece with measurements and side details such as left or right panel.
- Remove the banded drapery from the machine and transfer it to the Pin & Clip station.
- When memory stitching is required, align the piece correctly, add white clips to the bottom, and send it to Memory Stitch.
- Carry out other assigned tasks as needed.
- Follow all facility safety rules and procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions or unsafe actions to a supervisor right away.
- Support a safe workplace by correcting unsafe behavior and encouraging safe habits among coworkers.
- Notify management if other employees repeatedly violate safety rules.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment and report damaged or defective PPE.
- Report near misses, accidents, injuries, illnesses, and any musculoskeletal symptoms or disorders.
- Make sure work tickets with pins are secured to draperies to avoid injuries.
- Stay alert around inspection machines, which move up and down, to prevent head injuries.
- Secure long hair, remove long jewelry, and keep fingernails no longer than 1 inch when using inspection machines.
- Keep hands clear of air clamps on hang and inspect racks, and inspect racks before activating the air switch.
- Return tools and equipment to their proper locations at the end of the shift.
- Ask for help when moving heavy or lined draperies and never lift a load alone if it is too heavy.
- Move racks carefully because the workspace is tightly spaced and injury risk is higher.
- Maintain an orderly workspace throughout the shift, including daily housekeeping during the final 10 minutes.
- Place trash in the correct disposal areas for daily pickup.
- Know the department’s emergency evacuation route and be ready for emergencies.
- Report unsafe conditions anywhere in Carole Fabrics to a supervisor promptly.
Candidate Profile
- High school graduate.
- Able to read and use a tape measure.
- Basic understanding of fabrics.
- Capable of operating production equipment.
- Comfortable using hand tools.
- Must pass a color blindness test.
- Accurate with names, numbers, and spelling.
- Able to stand for long periods.
- Able to lift repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Strong focus on detail.
- Can follow both written and verbal instructions.
Compensation and Benefits
The role offers an hourly base pay of $13.00.
