Job description

About the Role

This planning internship sits at the centre of the newsroom and supports CNN’s coverage of breaking news. The desk is responsible for identifying and securing compelling voices from around the world who can add context and insight to the day’s major stories. These contributors may include eyewitnesses, subject-matter experts, politicians, and global leaders.

From day one, the intern is treated as an active team member and contributes directly to the pace and flow of guest booking across CNNi programmes such as Connect the World with Becky Anderson, Isa Soares Tonight, and What We Know with Max Foster. The work combines editorial research with coordination and logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch guest ideas and relevant viewpoints to programme teams each day
  • Take part in editorial discussion and make informed contributions to decisions
  • Arrange and coordinate technical details for remote and in-person interviews
  • Research suitable voices for CNNi programming
  • Reach out to guests and conduct pre-interview conversations
  • Prepare show teams and participate in daily editorial meetings

Requirements

  • Interest in building a career in journalism, supported by training and/or a body of work such as blogs, podcasts, or a YouTube channel
  • Comfort working in busy, high-pressure teams and ideally against tight deadlines
  • Ability to work efficiently, manage time well, and balance several priorities at once
  • Strong spoken and written communication abilities
  • Genuine enthusiasm for international news
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to get involved in any task

Internship Details

This opportunity offers a salary of £29,000 per year pro rata. The assignment runs for 6 months and is scheduled to begin on 1 September 2026.

The role follows a hybrid working arrangement, with a blend of remote and on-site work, subject to company policy and agreement with the line manager. The arrangement may be changed if required for business needs and with reasonable notice, where permitted by law.

Learning and Support

The internship includes practical experience on business-critical projects, access to personal and professional development courses, executive speaker sessions, special screenings, and more. Interns also join an Early Talent network of more than 100 interns and apprentices, offering peer support and opportunities to connect socially.

Application Process

The selection process has three stages. First, candidates must submit a CV by Sunday 21 June; applications will not be accepted after that date. Eligible candidates will then be asked to complete a written questionnaire in HireVue, due by Sunday 28 June. Final interviews are planned for July and August.
