Job description
Role overview
WMJobs is recruiting for a Placements Officer within Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, based at Cable Plaza, Waterfront West, Brierley Hill, Dudley. This is a key opportunity to contribute to Dudley Children and Young People Services as the team works to strengthen the delivery of high-quality, safe and sustainable placements for children and young people.
In this post, you will help secure, arrange and oversee placements for children in care. The role involves close partnership working with social workers, providers and other agencies to make sure every placement is safe, appropriate, affordable and aligned to each child or young person’s assessed needs.
What the role involves
You will operate in a busy social care environment where strong judgement, confident negotiation and sound decision-making are essential. The position requires someone who can manage competing priorities, respond quickly to changing needs and support effective placement outcomes in a fast-moving setting.
You will also be expected to question poor practice where needed, provide support to colleagues and providers, and help maintain the highest possible standards of care for children and young people in Dudley.
Skills and approach
The successful candidate will be proactive, practical and focused on achieving positive outcomes. Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills are important, along with the ability to work within statutory duties, local policies and operational procedures.
Work pattern
Workplace attendance is office-based for 3 or more days per week on a pro-rata basis, or full-time onsite.
Application guidance
Applications must be submitted through the online application form only. Public libraries within the Dudley Borough offer online facilities for job applications.
To help reduce bias in recruitment, applicants’ personal data will be anonymised during the process. Candidates should remove their name and date of birth from any uploaded attachments to meet the anonymisation requirement.
All applicants must be able to prove their right to work in the UK. Dudley MBC is not currently able to sponsor candidates who do not already have the right to work in the UK.
If you need help completing an online or paper application form, or want support with interview techniques, you can contact Dudley Adult and Community Learning on 01384 818 143 or acl@dudley.gov.uk for digital skills and job application support.
