- Complete thorough assessments of residents with confirmed or possible impairments or other health-related concerns, using history-taking and by reviewing care plans and other available documentation.
- Create and review tailored treatment plans that align with the resident’s goals, overall health, functional needs, and assessment findings, using evidence-based methods.
- Carry out appropriate interventions safely to reduce pain and support mobility, fitness, independence, performance, and participation.
- Use exercise, movement, mobilisation, and other suitable therapies in the nursing home setting to improve resident wellbeing and movement.
- Support residents dealing with joint and spinal conditions, including post-surgical recovery.
- Assist with rehabilitation after accidents, injuries, and strokes.
- Track each resident’s condition using measurable outcomes to monitor progress and the effectiveness of therapy.
- Guide residents, families, and CareChoice staff on prevention strategies and ways to improve health conditions.
Management Responsibilities
- Support the management of the physiotherapy service as part of the care team, working alongside the Director of Nursing.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues, residents, and families through clear and open communication.
- Take part in staff induction and in-service training, including Manual Handling and Patient Moving training.
- Observe manual handling practices regularly, address gaps in practice, and escalate concerns to the Assistant Director of Nursing or Director of Nursing when needed.
- Contribute to ongoing professional development and research activities relevant to the role.
- Keep accurate records and statistics for organisational and legal use, including documentation of workplace injuries and incidents, and update the computerised resident care system.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management.
- Help supervise and train student physiotherapists, junior physiotherapists, and physiotherapy support workers as appropriate.
- Work with other healthcare professionals to share updates on resident progress and make referrals when additional medical attention is required.
