Job description

About AvantStay

AvantStay creates high-end, authentic short-term rental group stays that are powered by technology and designed mainly for millennial travelers. The company is venture-backed and scaling quickly within a large, fast-growing short-term rental market.

Its product is an end-to-end experience tailored for groups, with technology embedded throughout the journey.

Role overview

The company is hiring a People Partner who is comfortable handling both strategic HR partnership and day-to-day people operations. The role suits someone who enjoys coaching managers through sensitive employee matters as much as handling benefits administration and other operational workflows.

You will act as a key partner to the Head of People, connecting employees, process, and policy. The position covers important parts of the employee lifecycle, compliance, and process improvement, with room to reshape workflows that are not working well. This is a good fit for someone who sees complexity in a growing, multi-state business as an opportunity to improve systems and support people well.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise managers on employee relations, performance concerns, team issues, and difficult conversations, including performance improvement plans, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Handle employee complaint investigations carefully, impartially, and with strong documentation.
  • Manage daily benefits administration across medical, dental, vision, retirement savings, and other employee perks and benefits.
  • Coordinate open enrollment, process qualifying life events, and respond to employee benefits questions while improving the overall benefits experience.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and multi-state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, state leave rules, pay transparency requirements, and related regulations.
  • Own workplace safety reporting, including OSHA logs, incident response, and required workplace postings.
  • Keep employee files, I-9 records, and other regulated documentation accurate and current.
  • Partner with the Head of People and Legal on regulatory changes affecting a distributed workforce across multiple states.
  • Improve and manage people operations processes such as onboarding, offboarding, internal transfers, and leaves of absence.
  • Create self-service guidance and documentation so managers and employees can find answers without constant support.
  • Use AI tools to speed up documentation, summarize policies, triage requests, analyze data, and prepare reports.
  • Continuously review workflows for opportunities to make them simpler, faster, and more effective.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least 4 years of progressive experience across both HR business partnering and people operations or HR generalist work.
  • Proven ownership of employee relations matters from start to finish, including investigations, performance management, and terminations.
  • Practical experience managing benefits programs such as medical coverage, 401(k), and leave administration, including open enrollment.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. multi-state employment compliance and workplace safety reporting requirements.
  • Background in a startup or high-growth environment, with comfort working through ambiguity and change.
  • Experience in hospitality, travel, vacation rentals, hotels, or a similar setting is a strong advantage, especially with field, operations, or property-based teams.
  • Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot, with examples of how they have improved your work.
  • Strong judgment, confidentiality, and follow-through when handling sensitive issues.
  • Excellent written communication skills for policy writing, difficult messages, and manager training materials.
  • Preferred qualifications include PHR, SHRM-CP, or an equivalent certification, experience with ADP Workforce Now, and Spanish language fluency.

Compensation and benefits

This is a fully remote U.S. role, with preference for candidates in Central or Eastern time zones.

The annual salary range is $75,000 to $82,500, depending on experience and location.

  • Generous paid time off
  • Company-paid insurance coverage, including medical, dental, vision, life, and more
  • Complimentary and discounted stays at AvantStay properties
  • Paid parental leave
  • Wellness stipend
  • Cell phone stipend
