About the Role

This position is with a Houston-based software and services business that supports utility-sector customers, including newer market entrants and established suppliers. The company provides advanced software offerings and managed services through a private cloud environment, serving both conventional energy operations and modern real-time smart energy clients.

The role follows a hybrid working model, giving you the option to split time between the office and your home location. During the initial training phase, however, being onsite with the wider team is essential. The role is expected to be onsite for at least 2 to 3 days each week, with additional office time possible depending on business requirements.

Although this is a full-time position, flexible work patterns can be discussed to suit individual circumstances. Candidates who need schedule flexibility are encouraged to raise this during the application process so it can be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a positive workplace culture and help improve the overall employee experience.
  • Suggest and contribute to initiatives that strengthen culture and engagement.
  • Respond to employee questions about policies, procedures, and general people matters, while offering guidance aligned with employment law.
  • Handle employee relations matters, including investigating and resolving concerns.
  • Deliver dependable day-to-day people operations support.
  • Review and refresh policies and procedures to ensure they reflect legal requirements and current best practice.
  • Assist with hiring activities such as candidate screening, interview scheduling, and updating applicants on their status.
  • Support onboarding and exit processes.
  • Manage HRIS tasks, produce basic reports, and maintain employee records and data accuracy.
  • Help managers with performance reviews, new hire appraisals, and performance improvement plans.
  • Contribute to audit, compliance, and reconciliation activities.
  • Maintain personnel files and process employee paperwork and changes in the HRIS.
  • Coordinate training program requests.
  • Guide employees on benefits and help administer benefits-related tasks and issue resolution.
  • Support People & Culture billing administration and reconciliations.
  • Handle unemployment claims, associated reporting, and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage leave administration and advise managers through the leave process.
  • Support People & Culture strategy and related initiatives.
  • Serve as a contact point for people-related queries.

Requirements

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Working knowledge of ADP and Workable is an advantage.
  • Understanding of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Experience handling transactional HR and people administration work.
  • Experience managing unemployment claims.
  • Experience processing leaves of absence, including coordination of internal and external leave policies such as STD, FMLA, and state PFML requirements.
  • Knowledge of benefits administration.
  • Experience supporting onboarding, offboarding, and end-to-end recruitment.
  • Background in employee relations, including support for performance reviews, improvement plans, and training plans.
  • Ability to create clear and effective employee communications.
  • Experience updating policies and maintaining compliance with changing legal requirements.
  • Experience supporting internal audits, reconciliations, and external audit data requests.
  • At least 2 years of experience in an HR or People Coordinator/Assistant role.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in an HR or People Generalist role.
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent education plus relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Good time management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Additional Information

This is a full-time onsite role based in Houston, Texas with a hybrid arrangement of at least 2 to 3 days in the office each week. More onsite presence may be needed depending on business needs. Initial training will require regular office attendance.

Flexible scheduling can be discussed for candidates with specific needs.
