Job description
Role Overview
KPMG Jamaica operates a support center in Kingston called Jamaica Extended Support Services (JESS), which delivers back-office assistance to the KPMG United States member firm. The finance and accounting function at JESS is growing to support payroll operations. Team members work in a client-extension model alongside the client’s stakeholders to help run back-office payroll activities.
The payroll function handles items such as HR audit reviews, tax updates, final pay calculations for employees who have left, overpayment calculations, and off-cycle payment processing.
Job Summary
The Payroll Officer is responsible for completing payroll-related tasks in line with standard operating procedures provided by the client’s payroll team. These duties include processing payments and adjustments, setting up deductions, preparing and sending overpayment notices, recovering overpayments, and issuing payments to terminated employees in accordance with state-specific rules.
This position reports mainly to the JESS Payroll Team Lead, while also taking work direction from other client payroll team members responsible for the supported processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess HR audit reports and decide what action is needed.
- Track the shared payroll inbox and reply to a range of requests within required timelines, including calculating off-cycle checks when necessary.
- Work out overpayments and underpayments based on payroll transactions effective on specific dates.
- Maintain employee tax records using state and federal tax forms.
- Set up deductions and process related refunds.
- Carry out tax balance corrections.
- Handle requests from the relevant system or website and complete one-time transactions when payroll lines are open.
- Manage workload priorities to consistently meet tight daily deadlines.
- Process W-2C corrections.
- Issue payments to terminated employees according to state requirements.
- Coordinate with other JESS teams to ensure assigned tasks are accurate and completed on time.
- Review existing standard operating procedures and suggest improvements where needed.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, or an equivalent professional qualification, is required. Candidates should also have at least two years of relevant experience in payroll or a similar processing environment.
Special Conditions
This role follows a hybrid work arrangement, with flexibility between working from home in Jamaica and being in the office. Employees are expected to work from the office at least five days each month, although this may increase depending on business requirements.
The job is carried out in a fast-moving team setting. The environment is largely paperless, and the role requires working on information systems throughout the day to access data and complete tasks.
There may be occasions when extended working hours or public holiday coverage is required.
Additional Information
Only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
