Role overview

Barwon Health is seeking Patient Services Assistants (Level 2) to join its Environmental Services team in Geelong, Victoria. This is a permanent role with multiple openings available across permanent part-time, permanent full-time, and casual arrangements. The position sits within the hospital environment and plays an important part in supporting nursing and clinical teams while maintaining safe, clean, and well-organised patient care areas.

What the role involves

The Patient Services Assistant is responsible for helping keep wards and departments clean, hygienic, and ready for patient care. The role contributes across five core functions: cleaning and housekeeping, food and beverage support, transport and couriering, ward support, and patient support. It is a hands-on position that requires close attention to cleanliness, infection prevention, service quality, and teamwork.

Key duties

  • Keep wards, patient areas, and other hospital spaces clean and hygienic, following infection control standards and housekeeping procedures.
  • Assist with patient care tasks such as mobility support, lifting, positioning, and moving patients within the hospital.
  • Provide general ward support by replenishing stock, handling linen and waste, checking equipment such as oxygen cylinders, and helping maintain readiness on the ward.
  • Support meal services by delivering food, checking meal orders, and restocking pantry and refrigerator items.
  • Move patients, specimens, clinical items, and equipment safely between wards and departments.
  • Work cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams, follow safety and information management requirements, and participate in emergency response activities when needed.

Candidate profile

Barwon Health is looking for someone who is service-focused, reliable, and detail-oriented, with strong time management and a professional presentation. The role also requires the ability to read and write in English and to handle the physical demands of the work, including lifting, pushing, moving heavy items, and walking long distances during a shift.

Qualifications and conditions

A Certificate III in Health Services Assistant and a Food Handlers Certificate are required. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory Police Record Check, immunisation status clearance, and a Working with Children Check where applicable.
