Job description

About the Company

The Careers Department is a software-as-a-service platform used by 800 schools across the country. Its mission is to help young people explore future career paths and better understand what work could look like for them.

The business works at scale with school and university audiences to produce and distribute meaningful content that inspires students.

Location: Surry Hills, Sydney.

Employment type: Full-time.

Experience level: Ideally 3 to 5 years in digital, sales, or public relations settings. Sales background is preferred because the role involves regular interaction with external stakeholders.

Role Overview

This position focuses on growing The Careers Department’s presence with key external partners. The successful candidate will be commercially minded, confident in relationship building, and able to spot, develop, and close new business opportunities.

The role involves representing the brand professionally with industry partners and advertising agencies, helping expand the company’s reach and the content shared with high school and university students.

Revenue and Partnership Development

  • Spot new commercial opportunities and turn leads into active partnerships.
  • Create, assess, and move new business opportunities forward across major audience channels.
  • Develop and grow a strong network of agencies, brand partners, and commercial decision-makers.
  • Manage the sales pipeline and keep CRM records updated with outreach, opportunities, forecasts, and revenue expectations.
  • Guide new business discussions from first contact through proposal, negotiation, and final close.
  • Communicate persuasively, present ideas clearly, and influence decision-makers with confidence.

Client Management

  • Serve as a primary contact for clients and agencies with professionalism and commercial clarity.
  • Provide strong client service and manage accounts from proposal development through campaign delivery and post-campaign follow-up.
  • Identify opportunities to increase account value through upselling, renewals, and expansion.
  • Build durable partner relationships by understanding client goals and shaping solutions that fit their needs.

Reporting and Accountability

  • Share regular progress updates with the Partnerships Lead on sales activity, revenue performance, pipeline movement, and growth opportunities.
  • Record leads, forecasts, client discussions, proposals, and campaign results accurately.
  • Take responsibility for sales targets, activity measures, and commercial outcomes.

About You

You should bring at least 3 years of experience in sales, account management, business development, or another commercially focused role.

The ideal candidate has excellent written, verbal, and presentation abilities, along with a confident pitching style. You will be well organised, able to think strategically, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities.

A proactive, self-driven attitude and an entrepreneurial way of working are important, as is a collaborative mindset and positive energy. Willingness to travel for work and attend events is also expected.
