Role overview
This position supports the department manager in achieving sales and profit targets while restocking merchandise across the store during overnight shifts. The role focuses on keeping the store conditions consistent, compliant, and customer-friendly so shoppers can find fresh, well-presented products and receive prompt, knowledgeable service. What you will do
- Help create a welcoming environment that makes customers feel valued and supports loyalty.
- Set up and maintain merchandising according to the approved plan.
- Keep shelves stocked and organized, with attention to product availability, freshness, rotation, inventory levels, pricing labels, signage, planogram accuracy, ordering, and cooler/freezer condition.
- Assist customers by locating items or recommending products when needed.
- Work collaboratively with team members, communicate store and role-related updates, and help build trust and respect across the team.
- Follow all applicable local, state, federal, and company rules.
- Monitor inventory and stocking conditions, and report any discrepancies.
- Check products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action when needed.
- Maintain correct storage temperatures and keep temperature records as required by policy.
- Support food safety, sanitation, productivity, and all compliance requirements including USDA, COOL, and DOA standards.
- Carry out product recalls and withdrawals promptly and ensure affected items are secured and removed from customer access.
- Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and report them to store management.
- Report customer or employee accidents, safety concerns, theft, fraud, robbery, or other illegal activity.
- Comply with wage-and-hour rules and help maintain a strong safety culture in the store.
- Make sure associates receive the safety training they need and use required personal protective equipment.
- Ensure hazard assessments are available for reference and that equipment remains in good working order, including reporting and helping resolve safety issues such as lockout/tagout situations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is preferred/required for the role.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States, or be able to obtain that authorization.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and a background check.
- Strong customer service ability is needed.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills are essential.
- Relevant supervisory experience: 0 to 3 years minimum.
- English is required; Spanish is preferred.
- Must be able to handle the physical and environmental demands of a heavy retail role, including standing, walking, lifting, pushing, carrying, repetitive motion, working in cold/freezing/heated/wet conditions, and handling equipment and hazardous materials.
- Pulling requirement: 250 lbs.
- Lifting requirement: 50 lbs.
- Travel is occasional and overnight travel is not required.
- Shift pattern includes varied shifts.
Work environment and equipment
The role may involve indoor and outdoor work, as well as exposure to cold, freezing, heated, and damp conditions. Safety risks can include slippery or cluttered floors, sharp objects, hazardous equipment, loud noise, dust, fumes, sprays, and cleaning chemicals. Common equipment includes cleaning tools, office equipment, registers, pricing guns, scales, scanners, carts, racks, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred tools include a baler/compactor and a box cutter. Required protective gear includes goggles, gloves, and a back brace.
