Role overview
NATS, working in partnership with the MOD, provides air traffic control services across six military airfields: Barkston Heath, Gibraltar, Middle Wallop, Netheravon, Wattisham, and Woodvale. At Gibraltar, the Operational Support Staff (OSS) role is a safety-critical position that supports the wider air traffic control team to help protect airfield operations and keep aircraft movements running smoothly during operating hours.
Compensation and closing date
The salary for this position is £22,269.63 to £35,779.02. The application closing date is 7th July.
What you will do
- Assist the Aerodrome Controller with day-to-day operational tasks.
- Support aerodrome medical response activity in line with training and established procedures.
- Carry out Aerodrome Wildlife Control Unit duties and airside driving responsibilities.
- Receive, process, and act on flight plans, key notices, flight progress strips, and other operational flight information.
- Monitor slots and coordinate with Eurocontrol.
- Maintain operational records, databases, and reports.
- Provide administrative support whenever needed.
Skills and experience needed
The role calls for a solid standard of literacy and numeracy, strong teamwork, adaptability, and the confidence to communicate clearly with colleagues and external customers at all levels. Good IT capability is important, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience in an airfield or another safety-focused environment is beneficial. A valid, clean full driving licence is required. FREC 3 or a similar first aid qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
Additional information
The chosen candidate will receive full unit training. Applicants must go through UK and Gibraltar security vetting and will need to obtain and keep the relevant level of security clearance.
