Role Purpose
This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day running of water systems, meeting production targets and sustaining required quality levels. The role also requires close coordination with the maintenance function to keep equipment operating efficiently, handling procurement through Material Service Requests, and preparing and submitting daily MIS reports while keeping inventory records accurate.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will provide operational support for water systems and help ensure reliable plant performance.
- Run daily operations for pre-treatment units, sea water/brackish water RO plants, DM systems, ETP and STP systems, ZLD, NH3 storage, N-Pit systems, and chlorination/electro chlorination systems.
- Work with the maintenance team to close planned maintenance jobs on time, improve equipment availability, and track preventive maintenance schedules.
- Follow plant work instructions to support efficient operations and achieve defined output and quality objectives.
- Raise Material Service Requests to obtain required materials from stores.
- Prepare and submit daily Management Information System reports.
- Keep accurate stock records for chemicals and consumables.
- Carry out regular SAP-related operational activities.
- Raise Purchase Requests for materials and service requirements.
Compliance, Safety and Sustainability
- Apply IMS, AWMS, DISHA and CHETNA requirements within the department.
- Protect people and equipment by following safety procedures and ensuring suitable training.
- Maintain compliance with all legal and statutory obligations related to plant operations.
- Ensure all documentation and formats follow Permit to Work guidelines.
Digitization and Improvement
- Support digitization efforts that improve operational efficiency.
- Contribute to automation initiatives that align with business goals and strategy.
- Recommend and implement process and system improvements, including newer technologies and innovative approaches.
Stakeholder Interaction
Internal stakeholders include Operations & Maintenance teams and Environment & Sustainability teams. External coordination will be required with contractors.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should hold an M.Sc., B.Sc. or B.Tech in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. A specialization in water chemistry or industrial chemistry is preferred.
The role requires more than 4 years of experience in thermal power plant chemistry operations, particularly in boiler water chemistry for 500 MW+ units, coal and oil analysis, and water treatment systems.
Prior exposure to a thermal power plant or a similar industrial environment is preferred.
