Job description

The role

This position is for a Cleaning Operative to deliver scheduled cleaning across trains and stations within Transport for Wales cleaning operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out assigned cleaning duties in train services and facility areas using supplied equipment and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Tasks include damp wiping, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning restrooms, cleaning kitchen areas, and tidying luggage racks, all within the required timeframes.
  • Maintain station platforms and other specified areas by clearing bins, removing graffiti, and dealing with pigeon droppings where trained, helping create a safe and pleasant environment for customers and colleagues.
  • Top up and replace consumables in designated areas, such as soap and toilet paper, to support cleanliness and customer comfort.
  • Perform more intensive cleaning when needed, including carpet cleaning with specialist equipment, steam cleaning, and occasional jet washing of station facilities.

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience in a cleaning-based role.
  • Confidence in using cleaning equipment and handling materials safely.
  • Good understanding of health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Awareness of safe handling practices for cleaning chemicals and substances.

Welsh language

Welsh language ability is not required for this role, but it would be a valuable addition to an application. Transport for Wales also supports people who want to learn Welsh or improve existing skills through online learning, classroom sessions, and funding for local community courses.
