The position sits within a small team and supports environmental conservation, land care, and day-to-day estate operations at the organisation’s Illaroo site in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales.

About Bundanon

Bundanon is an art museum set within a landscape of around 1,000 hectares. Its purpose is to operate the Bundanon properties as a hub for creative arts and education, encourage arts practice across all disciplines, and provide public access to both art and the surrounding landscape. The organisation aims to foster creativity and learning through a distinctive cultural and natural setting.

What you will be doing

You will contribute to the delivery of Bundanon’s Natural Resource Management program and support work across bushland, gardens, parklands, and farm areas. The role combines field work, maintenance tasks, documentation, and coordination support.

  • Assist with environmental conservation work, regeneration activities, grant-related projects, partnership initiatives, and other funded programs.
  • Help coordinate and support contractors and stakeholders involved in weed control, garden care, reforestation maintenance, bushland activities, and related works.
  • Take part in seasonal planning and help prioritise work across the property.
  • Support general land and estate maintenance, including tracks, fencing, grounds, and infrastructure.
  • Use tools, machinery, and equipment when appropriately trained and qualified.
  • Contribute to vegetation management, erosion control, and land care tasks.
  • Help maintain areas that are safe, tidy, and accessible.
  • Review internal documents connected to land and environmental management.
  • Prepare simple reports, field summaries, and meeting notes.
  • Assist with contractor coordination and monitoring of labour, inputs, and completed work.
  • Support reporting and record-keeping for environmental, WHS, and organisational requirements.
  • Keep basic logs, records, and work documentation up to date.
  • Work collaboratively with the team, share knowledge, and support a positive workplace culture.
  • Participate in meetings, WHS activities, planning sessions, performance processes, training, and team development.
  • Actively contribute to a safe, healthy, and wellbeing-focused workplace.
  • Follow WHS responsibilities and authorities as required.

  • Practical experience in outdoor work such as bush regeneration, weed control, gardening, farming, grounds maintenance, or comparable tasks.
  • Confidence using tools, equipment, and machinery safely, or a willingness to complete training where needed.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team and help build a constructive workplace environment.
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Basic administration and record-keeping ability, including maintaining work records and using Microsoft Office.
