Role Summary
The Medical Biller will oversee the complete billing process for psychiatric and behavioral health services. This includes creating and submitting claims, tracking follow-ups, posting payments, and helping resolve billing issues. The position also involves confirming insurance coverage, entering billing data accurately, checking claims for errors or missing details, and handling denials or rejections in a timely manner.
Key Duties
- Handle the full revenue cycle for mental health billing, from claim preparation through payment posting.
- Confirm patient insurance details before claims are sent.
- Enter billing information with a high degree of accuracy.
- Review claims for completeness and correct any issues before submission.
- Track and work through claim denials and rejections to support reimbursement.
- Communicate with insurance providers regarding billing and claim status.
- Respond to patient questions related to billing.
- Stay current on billing rules, coding standards, and reimbursement requirements.
Required Background
- Strong familiarity with medical terminology used in psychiatric and mental health care.
- Ability to investigate, interpret, and resolve claim denials effectively.
- Good working knowledge of ICD-10 coding practices.
- Experience with commercial insurance plans and Medicare billing requirements.
- Previous medical billing experience, preferably in behavioral health.
- Exposure to EHR platforms and billing software.
- Well-developed organization and time management abilities.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Excellent accuracy in data entry and billing records.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; medical billing/coding certification or similar training is preferred.
