Job description

About the Role

Appletree Medical Group is hiring Medical Assistants in Toronto, Ontario for candidates who are new graduates or in their final semester of post-secondary studies. This is an active, clinic-based role for people who want practical exposure to healthcare and are serious about building a future in the medical field.

The position is built for individuals who want real experience working with physicians and patients, while strengthening their résumé, developing practical clinical and administrative skills, and earning references that can support future applications to medical school, nursing, graduate studies, or other advanced programs.

Compensation is $17.60 per hour, with potential for additional earnings and growth over time. Benefits include vision, dental, medical, and paramedical coverage, available after 6 months of continuous full-time employment.

Who We Are

Appletree Medical Group is a multi-disciplinary healthcare organization focused on modernizing community healthcare in Canada. For more than two decades, the organization has supported Ontario family physicians and specialists, including providers in virtual care. The team is also expanding its impact internationally by helping communities strengthen and rebuild healthcare systems.

What You Will Do

Medical Assistants receive full training and handle both patient-facing and clinic support tasks. The role combines front-desk work, clinical preparation, record handling, and day-to-day clinic upkeep.

Training and Growth

After completing a 3-month probationary review, successful team members may be trained in specialty areas such as Travel Medicine, Allergy Testing, Foot Care, and Well-Baby programs.

Work Arrangement and Schedule

This is an onsite position in Ontario, not a remote role. Applicants should be prepared for a physically active workday, including being on their feet throughout the shift. The role suits recent graduates, students in their final semester who can commit to 3 to 5 full-day shifts per week, or individuals taking a gap year for work experience.

Candidates must be willing to work days, evenings, and weekends, and may need to travel between multiple clinic or office locations in the region.

Eligibility and Requirements

Applicants should have a background in customer service, ideally from fast-paced settings such as retail or hospitality. Prior medical experience is not required, but strong communication skills, reliability, flexibility, and a genuine interest in learning are important.

Candidates must live in Ontario and be permanently eligible to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or hold a work permit that remains valid for at least 12 months. Sponsorship is not available.

Education in a related field, equivalent work experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree is considered beneficial.

Hiring Process

The selection process includes an application review, an online self-recorded pre-screen interview, a group interview, and an in-person interview with the hiring manager. The employer emphasizes fairness, equity, and diversity throughout hiring.

Accessibility

Appletree Medical Group is committed to inclusive hiring and can provide reasonable accommodation for candidates with disabilities during the application or interview process.

About Appletree Medical Group

Founded in 1992, Appletree Medical Group is one of Canada’s largest multi-specialty healthcare organizations. With a growing network of modern clinics across Ontario, it uses experienced staff and current technology to improve access to community healthcare and support physicians in delivering quality care to patients and families.

Mission

The organization’s goal is to professionalize community healthcare in Canada and improve access to it by combining technology, efficient clinic workflows, and flexible care delivery.

Benefits

Eligible employees receive comprehensive vision, dental, medical, and paramedical coverage after 6 months of continuous full-time employment.

Additional Information

This opportunity is intended for people who are motivated by healthcare rather than short-term pay, and who want a role that can serve as a launchpad into a long-term medical or allied health career.

Selected candidates should be ready for a hands-on environment where they will learn clinic operations, patient support, and administrative processes in detail.

Terms and Conditions

No sponsorship is available for work authorization. Applicants must already meet the residency and legal work requirements stated above.

If accommodation is needed during the hiring process, candidates should reach out using the contact information provided by the employer for accessibility requests.
