Job description
Company overview
Coca-Cola Coastal Bottlers Ltd, also known as Coastal Bottlers, is among Coca-Cola’s longest-standing bottling partners in Kenya. Its operations began in 1962 in Mombasa and have since expanded from a modest setup into a modern, advanced facility in Mtwapa, Kilifi County. The site operates high-volume returnable glass, canning, and PET production lines. It supplies both domestic and export markets across Sub-Saharan Africa and also serves specialised customers such as Kenya Airways and NAS.
The plant holds ISO and GMP certifications, has been recognised with a Coca-Cola Gold Award for quality, and is known regionally for its strong performance in health, safety, environment, community support, and sustainability. The organisation aligns its work with Coca-Cola’s purpose of refreshing the world while contributing positively to the communities it serves.
Role summary
This is a full-time, on-site leadership position based in Mombasa. The Mechanical Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of bottling and packaging equipment. The role covers mechanical maintenance planning, fault diagnosis, breakdown response, shutdown coordination, and the continuous improvement of line performance.
Key duties
The role involves directing preventive and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and making sure equipment failures are resolved promptly. The Mechanical Team Leader will supervise and coach mechanical technicians, allocate daily work, monitor delivery, and reinforce compliance with safety, quality, and GMP requirements.
In addition, the position requires collaboration with production, quality, and safety teams to support continuous improvement initiatives, carry out root cause analysis, control spare parts usage, and keep accurate maintenance logs, records, and reports.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should have a solid mechanical engineering background, preferably through a diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience in mechanical maintenance and reliability within a fast-paced FMCG, beverage, or manufacturing environment is important, ideally on bottling or packaging lines. Prior team leadership experience is also needed, including supervising staff, coaching, planning workloads, and managing performance in a technical setting.
Candidates should be comfortable with troubleshooting and root cause analysis on mechanical systems such as conveyors, fillers, cappers, labellers, and utilities. Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance, maintenance scheduling, and CMMS tools is expected. A strong grasp of ISO requirements, GMP, occupational health and safety, and safe plant practices is also required.
Good communication and coordination skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively with maintenance, production, quality, and safety teams. The role also calls for the ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and equipment specifications, and to prepare clear maintenance documentation and reports.
Working arrangement
The position is site-based in Mombasa and requires shift work.
