The organisation is known for delivering sustainable, innovative design, build, operations, and maintenance services for municipal and industrial water infrastructure projects.

This position suits a professional who can lead mechanical delivery on complex projects, work across multidisciplinary teams, and take ownership of planning, coordination, execution, and handover. The company also offers scope for development, exposure to varied engineering disciplines, and opportunities for training and progression based on capability and initiative.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the full mechanical element of wastewater and water infrastructure projects, from design coordination through installation, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Work as part of an integrated delivery team and help maintain a collaborative, unified project culture.
  • Plan, coordinate, and control mechanical works for treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and process installations.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, environmental, sustainability, company, and statutory requirements on live sites and throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Supervise mechanical subcontractors and direct labour to ensure safe, efficient, specification-compliant delivery within programme targets.
  • Manage installation and integration of process equipment such as pumps, blowers, screens, pipework, valves, chemical dosing systems, tanks, HVAC systems, odour control systems, and related plant.
  • Work closely with electrical, ICA, process, and civil teams to manage interfaces and keep all project elements aligned.
  • Track progress against programme, identify delays or risks, and put mitigation measures in place to protect delivery dates.
  • Apply best-practice construction management methods, including Lean Construction and collaborative planning approaches such as Last Planner.
  • Support purchasing of equipment, materials, and specialist subcontract packages with attention to technical fit, value, and lead times.
  • Contribute to commercial management through budgeting, cost control, forecasting, valuations, variations, and subcontractor account management.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on programme, commercial status, safety, quality, risks, and resourcing.
  • Coordinate testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and validation activities to achieve successful handover to the client.
  • Ensure QA records, inspection documentation, test packs, and O&M manuals are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support PSDP/PSCS responsibilities and keep site permits and safety documentation current.
  • Guide and mentor team members as needed.
  • Assist with tendering and pre-construction work when required.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and handle technical questions, project issues, and client needs effectively.
  • Stay current with mechanical technologies, wastewater treatment methods, and Irish and European standards through continuous professional development.
  • Undertake any other duties that reasonably fit the role and business needs.

Candidate profile

  • Approximately 5 or more years of experience in a comparable role; experience in water or wastewater projects is an advantage.
  • A Level 8 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Chemistry, together with extensive industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
  • Having a certificate in Managing Safely for Construction Managers is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience with mechanical engineering works.
  • Confidence in dealing with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors in financial negotiations and final account discussions.
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to build baseline schedules and prepare programme updates.
  • Comfortable working independently, solving problems, and adapting when issues arise during delivery.
