Mechanical Design Engineer

Role Overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer will focus on creating and refining electronic enclosures used with aero gas turbine engines. The position covers the full development cycle, from early concept work through qualification testing, and supports both local Rolls-Royce Corporation projects and global engine programs. Work may involve concept definition, design development, prototype testing, final production, and product or system implementation, typically in collaboration with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid/on-site role based in Indianapolis, IN, with an expectation to be in the office three days per week on average. The arrangement is locally managed and may be flexed based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with electronics engineers to develop enclosure solutions that satisfy both electrical and mechanical design needs.
• Prepare detailed drawings and 3D model-based definitions to support manufacturing and the procurement of compliant hardware.
• Lead technical and design reviews, communicate proposed solutions to project teams and customers, and develop technical presentations and reports.
• Conduct component trade studies for new and existing hardware, review functional and physical interfaces, and define analysis needs for enclosure development.
• Ensure designs meet applicable certification standards such as RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD-810.
• Carry out mechanical analyses, including vibration and thermal assessments, to verify performance in the intended operating environment.

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $94,160 to $153,010.
